Cleansing Crystals

The image below came up on my feed today, a good reminder of the importance of cleansing crystals, especially with the full moon just around the corner. Regular cleansing of crystals, in use, is vital, as part of the way they work and bring healing is effectively to act like sponges absorbing any negative energy around them. Once they are saturated, if this energy is not cleansed and removed, it will begin to drip back out into the environment to which they are placed, or into the energy field of the person carrying them, just like a sponge saturated with water. This leaking negative energy can then actually serve to magnify the very challenges they are being used to heal.

There are many ways to cleanse crystals but one of the simplest and most effective, for most, is to soak them in clean cold water overnight in a glass container, and this cleansing is further enhanced by the energy of the full moon.

Crystals worn or carried personally are best cleansed every few days or even daily if working very hard. Those placed in the home or used in a vehicle can generally be cleansed weekly, except those being used with mobile phones, where daily cleansing is required, such are the levels of negative energy they are absorbing. Crystals planted out in the environment or used as part of a healing cairn require no further action as they will be cleansed by the elements, rain, wind, snow, sun and moonlight.

Crystals new to you are best cleansed for a minimum of 12 hours before use as they will have connected with many different energies on their journey to you. The crystals shown in the photograph are ones that had just arrived a few months back in the post from the wholesaler for various Crystal Earthworks planting projects. They were placed straight into water to cleanse as shown.

If you have soft crystals such as selenite or some forms of celestite, or silver or gold mounted crystal pendants or other jewellery, these are best cleansed on an amethyst, or salt bed, as prolonged contact with water can soften the former and tarnish the latter. I’ll put up a permanent page on this blog, later this week detailing the main cleansing methods for future reference. In the meantime the full moon tomorrow is the perfect time to put your unmounted harder crystals in to soak!
